Guidelines for Material Submission

Please do not send artwork material for unsolicited consideration – we cannot accept,
compensate, nor store submitted materials without a completed Artist Agreement.

All materials must be original, you must own it or it is not subject to copyright restrictions,
and you must possess the right to sell the license to us.

Digital formats (jpgs) are preferred, although we will consider very good color hardcopy and
color photographs – note:  Printed materials will not be returned!  Do not send Finished Art.

High resolution jpgs, approximately 500x350 pixels, in a vertical orientation, is ideal for
initial consideration.  Other sizes are required for final acceptance.

Also, as color and sharpness are main criteria by which we judge, make sure the samples
you send represent your actual color and content style as closely as possible.  Submit no
more than 3-4 pieces of your work at any one time – preferably in an email.

When we review the samples, we look for concept, style, drawing skill and color usage.  In
general, we do not publish fantasy, erotic, extreme, or occult illustrations.  We seek artwork
for all ages and groups of people, however t
he majority of the artwork we seek appeals to
15-55 year olds and mostly female – we do not seek children's art (ages 1 to 14).

Artwork which would appeal to different nationalities is welcome.

We try to respond to your emails within 24-48 business hours.

Licenses, Address, and Rights-to-Use

GCIS buys unrestricted exclusive rights to reproduce your artwork as greeting cards,
printed material, and possibly a variety of other future products.
Original artwork remains
the property of the artist, with certain restrictions around future use of the material.

Types of Artwork and Text Messages

GCIS greeting cards are sincere, fun, friendly and appropriate for the intended sending
event.  This does not mean that we are only interested in generic, polite greetings –
lighthearted sarcasm and humorous cards are often appropriate.

The art and greeting text we purchase from freelance writers are specifically suited for
particular card-sending events.  Text should complement the variety of cards we offer:
Traditional, whimsy, contemporary, photography and humor.  Traditional or sentimental
text is most often used in seasonal events (Christmas, Easter, etc.).
Keep submitted text
     messages short, simple and meaningful.

The rule for contemporary greetings is:  Avoid clichés.

Witty humor is always in demand!  Cute remarks, silly puns, clever quips, double entendres
and simple visual gags all have their place within GCIS. We avoid off-color, crude, and
     immature humor.

Sayings, poetry or verse needs to be paired with an appropriate occasion-specific greeting,
and credit given to the originator or author.  For example:

"I never met a man I didn’t like." —Will Rogers
 Happy Birthday dear friend.

Please remember before you submit an idea, it needs to be “receivable”!  Try putting yourself
     on the receiving end.

Compensation

All categories:  Flat Fee only.  We do not offer processes for royalty-types of compensation.

All acceptance and compensation is decided by the GCIS Art staff, and is contained in your
     Artist Agreement.
Prior to beginning work on your first assignment with GCIS, an Artist
     Agreement must be signed
and in place.
